HAPPY EASTER 2025!

Happy Easter to all from us in The Maze!! Have a great day, but don’t let your guard down…we hear reports there may be another Bunny out there today, and he’s quite a bit less kind than his counterpart!

The Cursed Hare of Ostara

(Large Monstrosity, Chaotic Evil)

Lore:

Legends tell of an ancient festival where the goddess of renewal, Ostara, blessed the land with fertility and abundance. However, a greedy noble once sought to hoard this bounty, capturing the sacred hares meant to spread prosperity. In response, the goddess twisted one of these creatures into a monstrous guardian of her wrath—now known as the Cursed Hare of Ostara. This monstrous rabbit stalks moonlit meadows, punishing those who seek to exploit nature’s gifts, devouring the unworthy in a storm of razor-sharp teeth and corrupted magic.

Hop of the Damned. The Cursed Hare can jump 40 feet in any direction as part of its movement, ignoring difficult terrain and avoiding opportunity attacks.

Eclipse Blessing. When under the light of a full moon or an eclipse, the Cursed Hare regenerates 10 hit points at the start of its turn.

Egg of Corruption (Recharge 5–6). The Cursed Hare lays a large, pulsating, necrotic egg in an unoccupied space within 10 feet. At the start of its next turn, the egg bursts in a 20-foot radius, dealing 6d8 necrotic damage (Dex save DC 16 for half). Any creature that dies within this area is transformed into a Hareling of Ostara, a twisted undead rabbit-like thrall under the monster’s control.

Actions:

Multiattack. The Cursed Hare makes three attacks: one with its Bite and two with its Claws.

  • Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be cursed. While cursed, the target takes an additional 1d8 necrotic damage whenever it takes an action on its turn.

  • Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) slashing damage. If the target is Large or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

  • Bunny Stampede (Recharge 5-6). The Cursed Hare summons a horde of spectral, screeching rabbits that swarm in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in the area must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 27 (6d8) psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. Creatures that fail are also blinded until the end of their next turn as they are overwhelmed by the ghostly stampede.

Legendary Actions (Optional for a Boss Fight):

The Cursed Hare can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. It can only use one legendary action at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn.

  • Shadow Leap. The Cursed Hare magically teleports up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space it can see.

  • Blood Moon Glare (Costs 2 Actions). It fixes its glowing red eyes on a creature within 30 feet, forcing it to make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns.

  • Burrow Strike (Costs 3 Actions). The Cursed Hare digs into the ground and erupts up to 20 feet away in a violent explosion of dirt and energy. Each creature within 10 feet of the emergence point must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 18 (4d8) bludgeoning damage and being knocked prone on a failure.

Treasure & Rewards:

  • Cursed Hare’s Pelt. Weaving this into armor grants resistance to necrotic damage.

  • Egg of Twilight. This dark, pulsing egg can be used once to cast Summon Undead (as a 4th-level spell).

  • Moon-Touched Claw. A dagger-like relic that deals additional 1d6 radiant damage on attacks made during nighttime.

Adventure Hooks (Fun info for DMs):

  • A village finds grotesque, oversized rabbit tracks leading to their missing livestock.

  • A cursed noble has been transformed into the Cursed Hare and must be put down—or redeemed.

  • A druid seeks to cleanse the spirit of Ostara and undo the hare’s corruption.
